On the 20th of April 2022 the conference „The future of wood construction – how to bridge the gap between education and workforce“ took place at Danish Technological Institute in Copenhagen. The conference was aimed to finalise the project „Knowledge alliance for sustainable mid-rise and tall wooden buildings (KnoWood)”.
 
Representatives of both industry and educational institutions were invited to speak at the conference, who presented the need for workforce qualifications, current educational programs and plans, and what measures should be taken to reduce the gap between theory and practice in the field of wooden building construction. The conference was attended by representatives of the companies Waugh Thistleton Architects, NCC, COWI and Taasinge Elementer, as well as representatives of educational institutions such as the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (Canada), VIA University College (Denmark) and representatives of the project promoters.
 
During the conference, the topics discussed were: what the construction industry expects from the education sector with an emphasis on design, what employees and their competencies are most lacking in the construction sector, what educational institutions can offer in terms of design and architectural solutions, what business expects from the education sector in terms of the competencies of production and construction workers and what educational programs based on specific business needs and future challenges can institutions offer.
 
 
Project was implemented by 5 higher education institutions and 6 companies from 4 EU countries and Canada: VIA University College (Denmark), University of Westminster (United Kingdom), Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (Lithuania), Universitat Politechnica de Catalunya (Spain), Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (Canada), House Habitat (Spain), Danish Technological Institute (Denmark), Study and Consulting Center (Lithuania), BM TRADA (United Kingdom), State enterprise Center of Registers (Lithuania) and Idea Statika (Lithuania)
